Synthetic Clothing Is Ruining Our Oceans And Ending Up In Our Food
Did you know that 60% of clothes are made from plastic materials like polyester, nylon, and acrylic?
Companies are tempted to make clothes from these materials because they are inexpensive. But plastic fibers are massive polluters.
Making clothes from these materials consumes over 350 million barrels of oil and releases over 8,000,000 tons of plastic into the ocean every year.
Not to mention that every time these materials go through the laundry, they release up to 2,000 microplastic fibers. The problem with this is that these fibers cannot break down completely.
They end up in our bellies and those of wildlife. It can take up to 200 years for synthetic fibers to biodegrade into the earth, so those polyester clothes you have could've been worn by Abraham Lincoln!

Synthetics Pollute The Earth And Underperform... What Can Be Done?
Look in any closet, and you’ll find clothes made from synthetic fibers like polyester.
If you’re looking for trendy, durable, and inexpensive clothes, synthetics are the perfect solution...
But the sad truth is they are polluting our earth with plastic. And what they’re not telling you is synthetic fibers underperform in warmth, breathability, and odor-resistance.
What can be done? Natural fibers seem like the obvious alternative. Cashmere, for example, is soft and luxurious. But cashmere production is an environmental disaster. Cashmere goats are over-herded due to their low wool yield, and their unique, damaging grazing is turning entire landscapes into deserts.
In Mongolia alone, 70% of grasslands have already been degraded by cashmere goats. Globally, 90% of cashmere-grazed land is at risk, contributing to rising temperatures and ecosystem collapse.
What if there was a simple solution that offers the same durability and comfort but performs better, doesn’t cause so much excess pollution and desertification, and actually benefits the earth?
Yak wool offers all the warmth, breathability, and comfort of cashmere... without the environmental damage.

Every spring, yaks naturally shed their fiber. They are raised by nomadic herders in Tibet, so they aren't locked away in cages or confined to small pens.
All the herders have to do to collect it is simply brush the animals. Some fiber can also be hand-collected by herders as it sheds. Yaks are healthier when their wool is combed out in the spring.
Our yak wool comes from Shokay, a fully traceable Tibetan COOP, where a portion of the revenue goes back to Tibetan community development and grassland conservation.
Shokay empowers herding families with a livelihood, provides healthcare across the Tibetan Plateau, and has regenerated 1,600 football fields of grassland in the last decade.

How Does Yak Wool Compare To Cashmere?
Yak wool is becoming increasingly popular as a sustainable alternative to cashmere.
Cashmere, once a luxury, is now everywhere: from fast fashion brands to premium luxury labels. What’s not so far-reaching, however, is the knowledge of the supply chain behind cashmere.
Cashmere fiber comes from goats that provide a small amount of usable fiber each year… it takes up to 3 goats to produce a sweater.
With herd numbers growing by nearly 5 million a year, the real “scarce” resource isn’t goats or their wool, but instead, it’s grasslands for grazing.
Cashmere goats are destructive feeders. Their sharp hooves trample grasslands, and their long tongues rip plants out by the roots. This overgrazing is already turning 70% of Mongolia’s grasslands into deserts, and globally, 90% of cashmere-grazed land is at risk—contributing to rising temperatures and ecosystem collapse.
Yak wool is different. Yaks are gentle grazers, clipping grass without uprooting it. They roam freely across the Tibetan Plateau, allowing pastures to regenerate naturally and preventing desertification.
Plus, one yak produces as much wool as five cashmere goats, making it a more sustainable choice without sacrificing softness, warmth, or luxury.
