What Is The Personal Uniform Challenge?

The Personal Uniform Challenge involves simplifying your wardrobe by creating a go-to outfit that you repeatedly wear with minor variations. The idea is to minimize decision fatigue and save time while still feeling confident and stylish.

  • Step 1: Audit your closet.
  • Step 2: Plan your personal uniform.
  • Step 3: Wear these outfits working, lounging, or going out over 2 weeks.
  • Step 4: Judge each outfit's comfort, performance, care, and versatility.
  • Step 5: Refine the items you chose. It's a journey!

----------

My personal style has evolved over the past few years...

Rather than buying whatever looks cute on the rack, I’ve learned to create silhouettes and choose colors that flatter my body type and complexion.

Despite refining my sense of style, I still had a lot of things in my closet that didn’t quite fit together.

That’s why I decided to take on the Personal Uniform Challenge. In this blog, I’ll guide you through how to audit your closet, discover your personal uniform, and create three different outfits using almost all the same pieces!

Step 1: Audit Your Closet

If you take a look at your closet, you might notice some patterns. No, I’m not talking about fabric.

For me, I notice that most of my clothes are variations of blue, paired with white and neutral-colored tops, shoes, or bottoms. Blues and greens tend to look best on my skin tone and make me feel the most confident.

Because I’m pear-shaped, I also choose tops that fit my body without being restrictive. I prefer a fitted look to accentuate my waist and overall figure. However, not all my fitted sweaters and tops are breathable or comfortable to wear, especially those made of synthetic fabrics.

Here are the criteria I used to determine which clothes I’d keep. Keep in mind your criteria should be custom to your preferences when developing your personal uniform.

  • Does it compliment my skin tone?
  • Does it make me feel confident?
  • Is it fitted?
  • Is it comfortable and breathable?

Step 2: Plan A Personal Uniform

Now that you’ve audited your closet, it’s time to create some outfits!

I laid out all my tops, bottoms, and shoes on the floor. Because part of my personal uniform is matching bright colors with neutral tans, whites, and browns, it was easy to mix and match all my different clothes and accessories!

Here are three outfits I created for easy wear throughout the day!

The Professional Look You Can Create With An Everyday Sweater

Alright, you can tell I’m not in the office. But the office is anywhere you want it to be when you work from home!

Professional outfits don’t always have to be monochromatic. That’s why I love my Emerald Blue Oliver Charles V-Neck!

This sustainable sweater is perfectly fitted to my body. It’s easy to tuck into jeans and is made of extra-comfy and breathable yak wool.

I usually sweat a lot when wearing a sweater under my favorite tan blazer. However, my yak wool sweater helps regulate my body temperature and has built-in 3D-knit vents under the armpits to prevent my sweater from developing any odors.

My Comfortable Sweater Outfit For Cozying Up At Home

Sweatpants are comfortable, but they don’t always make me feel my best.

Pairing my soft yak wool sweater with a light, flowy skirt is the ultimate comfy, stay-at-home outfit for me. I can lounge around on the couch and water my plants comfortably.

If I want to dress up this look, I can just throw on a pair of heeled sandals, and then I’m ready to go out! Otherwise, my cushioned brown flip-flops match perfectly with this outfit.

A Sweater You Can Wear For Work And Out On A Hike

I go on walks every day to soak up the sun and breathe fresh air before going back to my work-from-home job.

My Oliver Charles All-Season V-Neck keeps me warm on chilly, early morning walks and keeps me cool once the afternoon sun shines in all its glory.

I don’t even have to change clothes when I get back home! I just hop on my computer and join my meeting, already presentable for work.

Why Take A Personal Uniform Challenge

Here's my 10 cents; I had a lot of fun creating my personal uniform! It’s much easier to coordinate outfits now that I've taken time to audit my closet and mentally note how all my clothes pair with each other.

I was honestly surprised at the variety of outfits I could create using my Oliver Charles sweater.

From casual to professional, I have so many options from just a few pieces in my wardrobe.
