Living With Intentional Style: Where Fashion Meets Mindful Living

Introducing the 2nd blog in my 3-part blog series about how I created a sustainable style with my Oliver Charles All-Season Cardigan.

This blog is about how you can wear the same outfit multiple times, love each wear like it's a new outfit, and simply repeat.

By the end of this blog, you'll be well on your way to repeating those outfits you love with all the style tips you need to revamp your fit.

----------

There was once a time in my life when I thought that wearing the same outfit was simply unacceptable. I would find myself reaching for my favorite blouse or outfit and then quickly realize, “I wore this just a few days ago.” So I would put it back and try to find something equally as stylish to wear.

Whether I was meeting up with friends or going to work, I wouldn't dare wear the same outfit for fear of being judged.

I had quickly jumped onto the “fast fashion train.” I aimed for trendy clothes at affordable prices when it came to my wardrobe. I was okay with buying more consistently, because ultimately I felt like I was saving more budget-wise.

Now that I am navigating motherhood, I quickly learned to push back on this misconception of outfit repeating and simply use it to my advantage.

I don’t always have the time to shop for new things, and with balancing motherhood, I don't have the budget to get new things when I want. I went from wanting fast and trendy fashion to wanting more comfortable clothing that I could get multiple uses out of.

Teaching myself how to adapt to outfit repeats simplified my wardrobe. Through outfit repetition, I've learned how to become more sustainable and creative with my wardrobe.

As a busy mom, I have learned how to use outfit repeating to reflect my lifestyle needs.

Sustainable Style Starts With Outfit Repeating

I recently took part in the 7 Day Sweater Challenge, where I wore an Oliver Charles All-Season Cardigan for 7 days straight. The experience was truly eye-opening for me, and it encouraged me to be more creative with my outfit choices.

I essentially allowed the sweater to adapt to my lifestyle for a week. Whether I was just running errands, visiting family, or even just doing ordinary tasks around my home. Outfit repeating was such a breeze with this sweater.

My soft khullu cardigan sweater provided comfort, amazing quality, and style throughout my everyday life. It wasn't difficult to wear this classic piece every day because I viewed it as an essential. What makes my sweater a sustainable style piece is its amazing quality.

Having more quality pieces creates longevity in your capsule wardrobe, which can ultimately mean less consumption of clothing.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love fashion and I'm always going to have an appreciation for new trends and styles. However, I am a supporter of the idea of being more intentional with your fashion choices.

What Is Sustainable Style?

Sustainable style is a styling choice that embraces eco-friendly materials, great quality, mindful consumption, and encourages more personal style.

Outfit repeating supports sustainable style because it encourages you to spend less and promotes mindful dress.

Take my All-Season Cardigan, for instance. This sweater feels luxurious, like cashmere, and is made from soft down wool of high-elevation yak, known as khullu.

The benefits of this quality material are that it’s breathable and even has odor-resistant properties, making it perfect for outfit repeating.

When it comes down to the benefits of this sweater, I was honestly sold on its odor-resistant properties. If I can minimize my laundry load as a mom just a little, I'll take it.

Simplifying My Wardrobe With Outfit Repeating As A Mom

A typical day at home with my kids involves a lot of household chores like cleaning, organizing, and cooking.

When I'm not doing all of that, I'm chasing after my two active toddlers, cleaning up their messes, and occasionally running errands.

These everyday tasks have humbled my capsule wardrobe in such a way that I don't even hesitate to wear an outfit again in the same week.

I spend most of my days wearing matching athleisure sets, joggers, t-shirts, and leggings.

Many of these items in my closet are on a constant rotation throughout my week. I'm a mama constantly on the move, so I value durability and comfort in my clothing.

I've become more intentional with my fashion needs, so whenever I do add to my wardrobe, I aim for more basics and solid colored pieces.

Wearing a timeless piece like my undyed All-Season Cardigan allows me to mix and match it effortlessly. It works well with a lot of my solid tees and tanks, and occasionally prints too.

I never feel like I'm repeating an outfit with the many ways I am able to style it.

Personal Style Tips When Outfit Repeating

When it comes to outfit repeating, the possibilities for restyling that outfit are almost endless.

When I wore my All-Season Cardigan, I simplified my styling since I was at home most days. Now whenever I needed to go out to run errands, I'd try a different shoe or simply swap out my top for another. Some days, just changing my purse or adding a different accessory created a fresh look.

I like to keep three strategies in mind whenever I am outfit repeating. Those strategies are accessorizing, mixing and matching, and layering.

Utilizing one or even a combination of these strategies will help in keeping that outfit you have on repeat stylish and less recognizable.

  • Accessorize the look: Create more depth and detail by accessorizing your outfit. Try bold or layered necklaces to embellish a blouse or a dress. Adding a printed scarf or a stylish belt can draw attention in the best way. Tone down your outfit with a casual shoe or dress it up with a nice heel.
  • Mix & Match: Mixing and Matching works best when trying to repeat an individual piece, such as a top or bottom. For example, I could wear my Oliver Charles cardigan with a white t-shirt one day or with a black t-shirt the next day. I could dress it up with a simple blouse and jeans or a nice pair of dress pants.
  • Layering: Adding extra layers to your outfit can make it a little more interesting. During the cooler seasons, layering your outfit can elevate your look and may even be necessary. Adding items such as denim jackets, cardigans, sweaters, and flannels are easy options for layering. Now, during the warmer seasons, layering isn't just about style but comfort. Thin layers and lighter fabrics will become your best friend. Adding a lightweight button-up shirt, stylish crossbody bag, or even a trendy vest will give you a whole new look.

Following these simple tips will have you well on your way to outfit repeating in style.

During my 7 Day Sweater Challenge, I most definitely had some outfit repeats. I repeat outfits quite regularly as a stay-at-home mom, but even at home, I'm still intentional about how I wear that same outfit.

Final Thoughts On Outfit Repeating

If there's anything that I've learned from outfit repeating, it's that you can maximize style yet minimize consumption.

Pushing past the stigma surrounding outfit repeating has allowed me to be creative with styling, save money, and stress less about what I'm wearing.

Having my All-Season Cardigan as a part of my wardrobe has taught me that there is true value in good quality clothing.

There is no limit to how you can express yourself when it comes to outfit repetition.

Don't feel limited in your creativity and push past those little misconceptions about repeating outfits. So go ahead and wear that outfit again, love each wear like it's a new outfit, and simply repeat.
