It's March 17th, 2021.

I desire all is well with thee, particularly if you're living in Hermon, Maine. You can expect a high of 49, light WSW winds, and a 20% chance of rain. Should be a relatively uneventful and dry hump day.

Last week's newsletter had a 51.5% open rate, .5% shy of the prior week. The most loved meme was about how emails find you.

The week's top memes include:

  • Air travel is "taking off" again
  • The stimmy is here
  • Elon Musk is no longer CEO of Tesla
  • We successfully altered time
  • Zoo animals are lonely

Air travel reaches highest levels since pandemic hit

For the last week, more than a million people traveled by plane a day. More than any other time during the pandemic, but still less than the same time last year and about half of 2019. The increase is likely due to more and more Americans becoming vaccinated and taking long-overdue trips to see family. Airline stocks responded in kind, increasing across the board.

Airline stock price since the start of pandemic (2/14/20)

  • American Airlines -11%
  • Delta: -16%
  • Southwest: 4%
  • United: -24%
  • Alaska: 6%

The stimmy cometh

It's here. The third and final stimulus checks are starting to hit people's bank accounts. It's hard to tell what people will actually do with their checks. Will they pay down debt, save it, put it into risky meme stocks? Who knows... One thing is for sure though, you can't go wrong with a new sweater. How do you plan on spending your stimmy?

Both the CEO and CFO got promotions this week

Elon Musk and Zach Kirkhorn are now the former CEO and CFO of Tesla. Elon's new official title is now "Technoking", and Zach's is the "Master of Coin". Elon is one of the world's greatest innovators, and now he's shaking up corporate titles, and for that, we should all be grateful. Just one more way he's making the world a better place.

Worth loosing an hour of sleep over?

We all turned our clocks back an hour on Sunday. Well, your phone turned its clock back for you. It's often mistakenly believed that daylight savings was started to give farmers more time to harvest crops. That's not true. It was started to save energy. Which it doesn't. It actually seems to have more negative effects, than positive.

For example, one study found that if you're a miner, the chances of a workplace accident increase by about 6% the Monday after daylight savings. Another found that traffic incidents involving sleepy drivers increases by about 8%. Not to mention the toll it takes on our economy when the whole country is sleepy at the same time.

What happened to zoos during the pandemic?

Nothing. They are still there. The animals are just lonelier.
