The One Sweater You Need In Your Wardrobe

Welcome to my blog series that starts with my 1-Week Sweater Challenge. Wearing the same sweater 7 days in a row might seem like a crazy idea, but with a sweater as good as this one, it was easy to incorporate it into my everyday life.

Follow along for outfit inspiration for work and play. I’ll explain and show how you can wear one sweater in many ways and on many occasions.

The 1-Week Sweater Challenge was a great way to try having a minimal wardrobe and being more sustainable. I learned that having less in your closet doesn’t mean your outfit choices are limited.

Quality over quantity should apply so that you have pieces that last and won’t end up in landfills worldwide.

Sometimes we get swept up in the overconsumption of products. If you’re like me, shopping from places like Zara, H&M, or Shein is a part of your seasonal routine.

This type of shopping, called fast fashion, is a massive contributor to pollution, waste, and climate change.

It’s necessary to take a step back every once in a while and understand that a more minimal and sustainable lifestyle is possible, simple, and meaningful.

I’m here to tell you how you can own less in your closet without sacrificing style, optionality, and authenticity.

Why You Should Create A Simple Wardrobe

There are many benefits to creating a simple and sustainable wardrobe. The impact fast fashion has on the environment is terrible.

It’s estimated that the fashion industry is responsible for up to 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions; unless we change, this will increase by more than 50% by 2030.

I, for one, love to go thrift shopping because I am giving older clothes a second life instead of them ending up in a landfill. But if I want to treat myself to something new, I want to make sure it is quality material so that it will last.

Most clothes from the fast fashion industry fall apart, lose relevance, and are made with plastic-based synthetic fabrics like polyester, nylon, or spandex.

These are the worst offenders using nearly 342 million barrels of oil a year to produce (the average American driver uses 15 barrels per year).

My Oliver Charles sweater, on the other hand, is classically styled and made with natural, sustainable materials.

Plus, their 3D-knitting creates 0 waste while making durable sweaters that last decades.

This is important to me because climate change is terrifying and becoming increasingly noticeable.

We must stop supporting the largest offenders if we want to live a happy and healthy life without accelerating extreme natural disasters.

Sustainable Wool Sweater To Start A Minimalist Closet

My Oliver Charles is a high quality wool sweater and a perfect staple in my minimalist wardrobe.

Oliver Charles makes their sweaters from khullu, the down wool from Tibetan yak.

Having items made from better quality materials allows them to last longer so that you don’t have to shop and replace them often. In addition, this wool is more sustainable than cashmere but just as soft.

Remember, the more time an item is in good condition in your wardrobe, the less time it will be in a landfill somewhere else.

Buying quality everyday pieces is an investment but pays off in the long run when you don’t have to buy more clothing continuously.

Outfit Repeat To Do More With Less

Having a minimalist wardrobe with quality pieces allows you to spark creativity and step out of your comfort zone. With less, you can wear your favorite pieces more often in new ways.

Put together outfits that you might not have thought of or tried before. Instead of buying something new each time you have an occasion, use what’s in your closet to come up with something new.

Each time you pick out an outfit, it should spark excitement within you. You should be inspired by what’s hanging in your closet and able to make older, quality clothes seem brand new.

You’ll be surprised by how many different outfits you can create without having an abundance of items.

Try pairing items with everything from jeans to skirts to dresses. Remember that accessories are an easy way to make an outfit seem brand new.

Hone In On Your Personal Uniform

personal uniform doesn’t have to be boring, and you can still get enjoyment from the many clothes you already own.

I’ve benefited by putting more thought into what I like to wear and what I’m buying for my wardrobe. I know you will too.

The quality of materials makes a big difference, and you should always consider it when making a new purchase.

A sustainable wardrobe is essential for the environment and creating a safe place for everyone to live and prosper down the line.

Being conscious of what you love to wear all the time is one of the first steps in building your personal uniform and reducing clutter.

The planet depends on us making more conscious choices, especially regarding fashion.
